What really matters when it comes to your appointment with the photographer

Valuable tips for your photo shoot can help you when the tingling in your stomach starts and the joyful excitement slowly spreads. Because with it often come a lot of questions that go through your head. When your professional photo shoot is coming up, there are bound to be a few things on your mind.

To give you a little more security in advance, I would still like to answer the most important questions, because a few tips from the photographer can certainly not hurt.

What should I wear to the photo shoot?

At a photo shoot, the focus should be on you and not on your clothes. That’s why I don’t recommend striped, checkered or wildly patterned clothing. Large prints or emblems can also be distracting later on in the photos. But the most important thing is that you feel really comfortable! We all have that one tight top that looks great or those new jeans we want to show off. But if you have to constantly adjust a shirt or your pants pinch, it’s going to be hard to feel and move freely. Just wear your favorite clothes, because they are not only comfortable, but also show you as you are. Of course, this goes for everyone. For a family shoot or photos with friends, it does the overall image good if you coordinate a little and agree on a few colors. This results in a nice, calm picture later on.

Especially with the little ones, it’s important that you don’t stress about the clothes. Five outfit changes at the photo shoot are simply not necessary. A pretty set in which the minis feel comfortable is quite sufficient. Plus one to change into in case something goes wrong. If the diaper change is in between, often a few great nude pictures are created, which are later anyway the most beautiful, because they simply capture the moment.

How do I put on makeup for the photo shoot?

“For a professional photo shoot, the makeup should be stronger than usual to emphasize the contours, lips and eyes more.” Such tips abound on the net but I personally don’t think it’s good advice. A skilled makeup artist can certainly conjure up a perfect photo makeup for the camera, but for most of us it probably brings more stress and anything but a pretty result when we start experimenting around on the day of the shoot. Besides, I prefer natural pictures anyway, where no one looks dressed up and made up.

So your natural daytime makeup is perfectly fine to step in front of the camera. The day before the shoot, it’s best to just leave your face alone. Plucking eyebrows or trying out new creams and masks should not be on the schedule to avoid redness. But other than that, if you feel comfortable, you’ll look your best in your pictures.

And don’t worry if you’re struggling with a particularly nasty pimple right on the big day – I’ll make it disappear in post-processing, of course.

What do I need to consider for a baby or child shoot?

Moms somehow have the wonderful quality of being well-prepared by nature. Because you know best what your little ones need. The dearest stuffed animal may of course be in the picture and during the shooting can be quite relaxed breastfeeding or feeding.

I attach great importance to the fact that you make the little treasures no stress. Therefore, applies to my baby shootings and children’s photos: The minis set the pace. Often this creates the best pictures, because I can capture very natural moments and the tender interaction between parents and child. So don’t worry too much, your little ones will rock the shoot anyway.

A photo shoot at home – what do I need to prepare?

Again, real is the best. On your pictures you want to recognize your home later and not 4 walls that look like from a catalog. So you don’t have to move furniture, buy new decor or scrub the floor until it shines. Tidy and clean is really enough.

Of course, if you have everyday items in your home that you don’t want in the family album, you can put them away for the day. The classics are sports equipment or the rotary dryer. But other than that, it’s all about capturing you in your beloved home.

What else do I have to pay attention to during a photo shoot?

Just look forward to it! Even if it is exciting for you, you don’t have to be afraid of the photo shoot. After all, taking great pictures is my job and my great passion.

I bring the necessary routine and calmness with me, and by now I have a very good eye for the “annoying classics” that might bother you on the pictures. Twisted necklaces, dents from the bra, or bulging pants pockets because the cell phone is still inside – I also pay attention to the small details and make sure that everything fits when I pull the trigger. So just have fun and be yourself!

I hope my tips for your photo shoot could help you a little bit. If you still have questions or maybe even want to get in front of the camera for natural photos, feel free to contact me. I look forward to hearing from you!
