What to wear to a pregnancy photo session?

The selection of outfits for a photo shoot is only part of the preparation, although it is very important. Read these articles before you go shooting, they will answer many of your questions.

  1. Prepare shoes for shooting – the sole must be clean so as not to leave marks on paper backgrounds in the studio. The shoes in which you arrived at the shooting will not work, even if you just got out of the car to the studio in them. Or you will need to seal the sole with masking tape.
  2.  Manicure should be neutral – French or light pink, natural tones will do. A pedicure is also preferably neutral if we plan to take a full-length photo with bare feet or in open shoes.
  3. IRON OR STEAM all clothes before the shoot so we don’t waste your time on the shoot.

Lingerie

For a photo only in underwear, any type of underwear is suitable – basic, sports, elegant.

Under dresses, bodysuits, the fabric should be smooth (without laces and appliqués), seamless flesh-colored underwear. This can be found in many stores, including the mass market (Oysho, Uniqlo, etc.).

If you want to put on an open shirt/jacket/jacket over the linen, put on jeans, trousers, shoes underneath – it’s better to write me your idea, send photos of things, and I’ll tell you if they fit together in style or not, and what needs to be replaced.

Body

YES: Solid bodysuit in black or nude (perfect for silhouette shots if you don’t want to be photographed nude) or colorful printed bodysuit (again, message me ahead of time if you’re thinking of pairing with bold pieces).

I have several versatile bodysuits in my shooting wardrobe.

NO: we do not take lace bodysuits, they have lost their relevance and cannot be combined with any other things. Also, we do not take bodysuits with buttons, appliqués and other additional elements.

Evening dress

YES: Luxurious, floor-length red carpet dresses are perfect for a Vogue-style maternity shoot. I have several of these in my shooting wardrobe, but you can also use your favorite evening dress. Even if it does not fully fasten – it does not matter, it can be hidden in the photo.

NO: Summer sundresses with floral print and “turkish cucumber” are not included in this category.

An ordinary noodle dress can serve as a good basis for an outfit with outerwear, accessories, shoes, etc. or work on its own, creating a minimalist look.

The main thing is that it creates a beautiful silhouette – not too tight and vice versa, not too loose. Do not take large-knit dresses, in a noticeable “rib”.

Shirt and trousers

A white shirt and black trousers are already a style classic.

Both can be borrowed from the husband’s wardrobe.

Pants may not fully fasten on the stomach.

The shirt must be loose! Take men’s or women’s, but a size or two larger than yours.

An alternative to a shirt is a jacket on a naked body or over underwear. It should be 1) long 2) loose. Then the image will be modern, stylish and visually slimming you.

Jeans

Can be paired with shirts, bodysuits, outerwear or on their own.

Jeans may not be fully buttoned on the stomach, but they must be modern in style – not too tight, without embroidery, rhinestones, holes, etc.

Outerwear

One of the advantages of the Vogue style is that we are not limited by the interior and can freely use outerwear in our looks.

Trench coat, coat, fur coat, raincoat, leather or denim jacket.

They can be the second layer in the image over a dress or trousers with a top, or put on a naked body – it looks very cool and bold.

Shoes

The most commonly used shoe options:

  • Classic boats in black or flesh-colored, or an unusual color, with decor.
  • Rough boots.

If you have other interesting options that will suit your images, as you think – bring it, we will experiment) or send me photos of things before shooting.

Accessories

If you want to move away from minimalism towards fashion photography, you can use various accessories – hats, belts, bags, etc.

What NOT to wear to a photo shoot

  1. lace peignoirs
  2. summer dresses with flowers and other prints
  3. booties, baby clothes, teddy bears, belly bows
  4. dresses made of very shiny fabric in bright colors
  5. home clothes, pajamas
